Taipei, circa 1971
This is Taipei around it Ximenting (西門町, the "West Gate District") where used to be heart of the city since Taiwan's Japanese occupation period (1895-1945), and it's also the neighborhood where I was born.
So familiar with the sights, I can even recognize many shops and signs in the photos. To be more specific, I was born in the second building of Chung-hwa market (中華商場, appeared on the left hand side of the 6th photo), a huge market row formed by eight long buildings. The market was destroyed around 1991 when I lived in the States; it's sad to see it go when I couldn't be there, but its disappearance was also an opportunity for a new Ximenting to be reborn from its ashes.
