We're all work of art.

Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art.

-Eleanor Roosevelt

Well, now I have all the bragging rights to say so: I am not really "beautiful", but I am indeed a "work of art" shaped by time, success, failure, what I've learned and all the wonderful people around me.

"I am not carving the material into something, but bringing out the thing that has long existed in the material," said a sculptor.

Maybe we are all like this. We are destined or, say, manipulated to become something artistic with the help of age, and time is the merciless chisel to bring us out.

Cigars arrived.

The latest batch of cigars ordered just arrived. I was notified by mail to claim my parcel at the central post office a 30-minute drive away. Since cigars (and other tobacco produce) are "restricted goods", I have to pay hefty tax to get them released; no wonder the prices in local stores are usually twice the US prices.

This batch should be sufficient for the second half of 2009, and wish I could have a chance to go to the US (or Cuba, for that matter) to pick up the next.

More cigars

An anti-smoking foundation in Taiwan today threats to take legal actions againt Facebook (which has a game with smoking implication) and its users, as well as people who post smoking-related text and photos on the Web. While I respect their good intention and efforts, I am not totally agreeing with their overly aggressive approach.

So thank you. Thanks for keeping people healthy, but please also do respect people who are willing to enjoy themselves without affecting others.
